RE: Truck bed

Can one use a rubber mat on top of the bed liner or is the problem still the same?
Wayne in North Texas
When I got my new to me truck I did just that and also put a rubber mat under the liner,I have gone many miles without a problem but it makes it more difficult to load the camper as your clearances are less.
I am going to remove it and get a spray in liner soon.

RE: questions, 7way splitter? etc....

The ignition switch in the truck needs to be on before you will get any power to your trailer plug.

RE: Honda 3000 or twin 2000"s?

I have a 3000 and it is heavy. I have to have help to move it. It will run both the A/C and the microwave. I would rather have twins only for the weight. It is easier to move twins then one 3000. If you have a permanent location for it I would go with a 3000. Oh and it is electric start.
You make me feel better robseg as I have to have my wife or brother help me lift it. I just didn't want to be the first to admit it.:B

RE: Honda 3000 or twin 2000"s?

I have the 3000 and mount it on a rack to the front of the truck and leave it there until I am done camping, and then use it on the house when the power goes out in the winter. All I have to do when setting up at a camp site is start it and plug it in.

RE: Hood above stove

Could it be equipped with a charcoal filter?
If so, it would just re-circulate the air.
I have the same at home.
Certainly not the most efficient system.
Bill
Nope no charcoal filter.

Hood above stove

Hi all,
Awhile back I saw a post about removing a metal cover in the hood above the stove in a Lance. As I have a 2005 Lance 835 and am about to leave on a trip I put this on my list to do be fore leaving. Well it sure surprised me when I found that it is not even vented to the outside . Is this normal or did the factory forget to cut a hole for it. I can't see where the hood would do a lot of good the way it is. Comments anyone?

RE: Fuel Cost

In the SF Bay Area you will not find diesal for less then 5.25. In a month it will be 6.00. Tell congress to drill and create many nuclear power plants now.I just got some last Sat. for $4.96 a gal. at a Chevron station in Mill Valley.

RE: New Truck front hitch

What year is your truck?
Did you have to lose the fog lights or tow hooks for the install? Steve in 29,
Look at the Warn hitch from Cabella's ,I used one on my 2005 F-350 and you can keep your fog lights.

RE: Mileage decrease on mandated 10% Ethanol.

You guys have to stop making these irresponsible calls for alternative forms of energy. Do you realize how many oil company executives will be jobless if our dependence on oil wanes?
The oil companies have been fighting against alternative energy sources. It just is not profitable. And profit drives the industry. Hydrogen can be produced by applying an electrical current across water. Water is oxygen and hydrogen, hence H2O. As soon as the energy executives find a way to charge $4 per gallon of water and be able to keep us from using anything but the water that they provide, hydrogen cars will be plentiful. There has been technology around for many years that would allow cars to get 50-100 MPG. And as soon as the oil companies find out about the technology, they buy it up or hush it in any way possible. I personally know of a back woods mountain that was a family friend that was able to achieve way over 50 MPG's from an old Willy's. He got a visit one weekend and we never again saw that old Willy's around. Said it sold it for the greater good. Always had money after that. Go figure. Do you know what they use to refine crude oil to make gasoline? Do a search and you may be surprised. There is ALOT of money being used to do research on alternative fuels by oil companies.

RE: Mileage decrease on mandated 10% Ethanol.

Regarding horsepower and torque, you get *more* of both when running ethanol, not less.
Really HOW???? Less BTU less power. True that E10 has more octane but that DOES NOT = torque.
Higher octane = more horsepower & torque
All octane does is prevent pre-ignition in engines that have higher compression, using a higher octane fuel in an engine that does not require it will give you no performance gain....But it will give you pocketbook drain.

RE: Sonora Pass - should I do this?

What does an automatic have to do with it? I can select almost any gear just the manual. How does the manual create more braking power?
When downshifting in the lower gears, many manual transmissions can often provide greater engine breaking power due to lower ratio gears as compared with an automatic transmission. Additionally, with a manual transmission, you don't have the typical slippage associated with a torque converter's "fluid connection" found in an automatic transmission, and you instead have direct clutch plate/pressure plate/flywheel contact.
Guess I'm still not buying it. Hit the tow/haul button and converter is locked. I can drop down to a gear that will take the engine all the way up to redline. If all that doesn't work and your still riding the brakes hard, then you're going too fast to begin with . . . regardless of the transmission.
I just finished a 4,000+ mile trip across 7 Western states with camper and trailer in tow. Never found a hill or grade the tranny wouldn't hold. I'm with you Mooney. A stick is fine if you want to be shifting all the time, I have had both. Take the exhaust break out of the equation and there isn't much of a difference. When you put it in 2nd or 1st the torque converter is locked up, no different than stick.

RE: Sonora Pass - should I do this?

I did it last summer no exhaust brake with a 97 Ford F-250 Dieselw/auto trans. and a Lance 835. I would have no problem doing it again. Just put it in 2nd gear and go slow.

RE: TV Connection Help - Lance 835

I have a 2005 835 and looking in the manual it states " Lance Lite models equipped with a TV antenna have a TV jack located at the TV shelf. The jack has a 12-volt outlet to power the TV. When not using the TV, unplug it from the outlet to prevent current drain. To use the TV antenna turn "ON" the switch located on the TV jack. A red light will show on the jack indicating the antenna is powered. When not using the antenna, turn the switch to "OFF" to prevent current Drain. Units equipped with a satellite dish have an additional outlet located next to the TV jack. The satellite will connect to this outlet".
In the cabinet behind the jacks their is a wood grained metal plate that allows access to the back of the jacks among other things.
Hope this helps.

RE: Mysterious hose fitting on my camper

Does it look like the type of fitting that you would use with an air compressor? Brass in color with a sleeve that pulls back? If so that is to hook a propane appliance to.

RE: Just wondering about the Lance Roofs

My understanding (from the Lance factory tour) was that the switch was made due to sizing problems. Aluminum could not be economically produced in sheets wide enough for the MAX (and all new wider) models. Having a seam in the aluminum wasn't desired.
(what I heard...don't shoot the messenger)
I was told the same thing.

RE: Performance computer chip?

You may want to check DieselStop.com it could lead to problems i.e. blown head gaskets. If you must do it though think about getting some after market replacement studs for the heads.

RE: Another truck to camper electrical question

Off the top of my (non electrical) head, does the solenoid need a certain amount of power to work? (does that make sense?)
According to the spec. it needs 3amps which shouldn't be a problem as the hot wire I'm using supplies 20a.

Another truck to camper electrical question

I just got around to upgrading the wiring on my truck today and installing 8 ga. wire and an 85a. continuous duty solenoid. Everything went well until I tested it. I am using the hot lead from the trailer plug as the signal but it doesn't energize the solenoid. I have tested it with a meter and the signal wire has power,I did a continuity check on the signal terminal and the ground on the solenoid and all is ok there. I jumped the signal terminal to the battery and that seemed to work. My truck is a 2005 F-350 Lariat with camper and trailer packages. The trailer plug works fine. There aren't any problems with the truck wiring as I have tested EVERYTHING. Since the hot lead from the trailer wiring is hot and the solenoid works, what could I be missing?

RE: Front Receiver Hitches

I just installed one this last week on a 2005 F-350 Lariat 4x4.
It was a WARN part no. 70480 ,$270.00 from 4wheel parts Wholesalers. I would check on Warns web site and download there catalog to confirm that it will work on an 06.
